Stambolovo municipality is located in northeastern part of the Eastern Rhodopes, near the borders with the Republic of Turkey and the Republic of Greece, whic defines it's key geographic location.

It's 26 settlements are located in the space between the Haskovo valley and the valley of Arda River. The population of the municipality of Stambolovo is 5.934 inhabitants (1/2/2011), and has preserved the traditions and customs of both the Christian and the Muslim religion.
